A better day than Lindsay Lohan...

I think it's safe to say that we're all having a better day than Lindsay Lohan. Sure my tank top that I'm wearing underneath my dress is riding up, but I wasn't arrested for DUI/Cocaine possession. Perspective is a great thing, isn't it?

So my interview yesterday went pretty well, I think. I got there right on time. I didn't get lost. I had luckily NOT worn my polka-dot dress so I didn't end up matching my interviewer who was wearing a polka-dot dress (phew). I answered the questions I was posed thoughtfully and quickly...

The job itself seems really interesting. I'd get great benefits and a good vacation package including free health care, 12 vacation days and 4 personal days. Plus they have summer hours, 9:30-5:30 Monday-Thursday and NO WORK Friday. The people who interviewed me were really nie, and I felt comfortable right away. I could definitely picture myself working there...
1-2 weeks and I'll find out, either way.

I'm on page 630 of 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows'. I wish I'd had enough foresight to start coughing last Thursday or Friday and then call in sick yesterday to finish the book. I guess I'm not that great at planning ahead.

Tonight: exercise class, reading 'Harry Potter', putting away 4 loads of laundry, cleaning the house before my mom (great...) gets home tomorrow.

Victoria Beckham is too skinny.

Just thought I'd point that out.
Yet again-another busy weekend full of traveling. So far this summer I've had two weekends in DC, a weekend in upstate CT, a weekend in Lancaster, PA... and now I can add Long Island, NY to that list.

The Harry Potter party was a success I'd say. I left my house around 8:15 (I was supposed to leave at 7:45 but I locked my keys in the car, again, and so was delayed. Luckily though as I was waiting for the tow truck to come I found a set of spare keys that I'd never noticed before! They were just hanging in the front hall, on the key rock, and I'd never looked at them or thought 'wow, that silver key has a toyota logo on it. maybe I should see if it works in my car'. So, LUCKILY, they worked! And I got to call the tow truck ppl and cancel!!), and got to Ivy's house around 10. The drive up was nice and WOW! The Throgs Neck bridge is really pretty. I am enjoying bridges very much lately.

I got to Ivy's house and Rebecca was already there along with Megan and Breanna. We went to Border's around 11 to wait in line for the doors to open and WHOA. Shit like 'Harry Potter' brings out the worst in people. It was kind of depressing...such a happy event like 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows' coming out makes people yell at each other, curse, push, give diry looks-EW. CALM DOWN PEOPLE! So we got our books, read until 4 am and then went to sleep til 8 am. Woke up, breakfast, drove around to Port Jefferson to read by the beach/in a park...had some DELICIOUS burritos for lunch...came back and read on Ivy's porch and then I went home at night. It was relaxing and fun to catch up with Rebecca and Ivy. I ate some delicious vegan pies and baguettes and cookies etc. etc. <3 Now that's what summer should be, I think.

Saturday night was spent with Katelyn and Alex and Alex's mom (why can't I think of her first name right now?) chez Alex. We did Chinese for dinner, played some Vh-1 pop-up-video trivia (kill me), and played with sparklers on the front lawn. It was ok...
Might have been more fun if I wasn't really tired, bored from the aforementioned trivia game, feeling sorry for myself

Sunday I went to camp and spent some time with Kate on family visiting day. I miss camp. It was beautiful outside and I got to eat cookies (noticing a pattern?), see the lake, meet Kate's co-counselors. I drove her home for her day off and we watched some 'Arrested Development' (noticing a pattern?), ate bagels, sneezed (Kate, not me).

And now it's Monday already!

Today: work til 2:30, train into the city for my interview at Carnegie Hall, reading 'Harry Potter', going to bed early

Hump Day, and this week? it really is!

I've been working on this mail project at my summer job for over 5 weeks. It sucks. I hate it. Boring work. Lame Face. Boo. So now I'll tell you about it :)

The law firm where I'm working sent out a mass mailing, of maybe 7,000 envelopes, in the spring to the firm's entire MS Outlook contact list. About 750 of these envelopes got sent back because the information in MS Outlook was YEARS old. Some of the information for companies hadn't been checked for 8 years! So it's been my job, along with answering the phones, to research these companies online or using the phone book to find out why these envelopes got sent back to us. Sometimes it's been because the person who we addressed our mailing to isn't working for the company anymore ("You're looking for who? What? She hasn't worked here for 5 years! hahahahaha"), Sometimes it's because the company we mailed something to was bought out and changed its name, Sometimes it's because the business simply changed its address and we weren't notified. I've been entering the data changes in this excel sheet, which was bad enough, but NOW I have to go and make the corrections into MS Outlook too. And now, I stumbled upon a brand new pile of envelopes that need to be researched...

Oh. My. God. !!!
If I weren't going to be done with this job in 3 or 4 weeks I would quit. I hate doing these things.

Some new developments: I started making my HARRY POTTER shirt last night! Well, the red shirt color was a good choice and the iron-on letters I chose are very nice looking. The t-shirt paint is a bit complicated, but I'm working through it. I did a little lightning bolt on the front of the shirt, and I'm making a broom on the back tonight (you have to wait 24 hours for the paint to dry)!! I'm getting pumped for the book to come out on Friday night!! I think the fact that I spend 3/4 of my day talking to Rebecca in G-Chat about the book/our Harry Potter party this weekend helps with that.

Tonight Katelyn and I are painting Fairfield County, CT red! Well...maybe not. We ARE going to Trader Joes, The Darien Library, Al's Discount Liquor, and Starbucks though! I need to remember to wear a belt because the pulling up of pants is just not acceptable in Darien.

Later tonight: Mojito, 'Arrested Development', Harry Potter shirt.

When did life get so exciting?

Friday: My day

40 minutes left of work for this week
I can do it. I can do it.
I'm the "Little Temp Person That Could" like "The Little Engine That Could". That book is crazy.

So, "A Midsummer Night's Dream" last night was great! It played outside at Sterling Farms golf course, right near Heather's house and THE temple (we always call it THE temple...like there's only one. Maybe there's only one to us. We're loyal people), and for a community theatre production I thought it was well-produced, well-designed, and I think everyone else who went enjoyed it similarly. They had this Asian theme to the scenery and costumes which was interesting...
Well, regardless. The idea of sitting outside and picnicking to Shakespeare is fun. Before the play started (Nana and I got to Sterling Farms an hour early, of course) they were playing the soundtrack to "Guys and Dolls"-how nice. It reminded me of being a kid again. I always want to feel like a kid again. I don't acknowledge or accept this adult phase in my life.

Besides that nice evening, I have two possible leads on jobs right now. One is as a human resources dept. assistant at Carnegie Hall in New York. I have an interview July 23. The other is for an entry-level job at NBC/Universal through family. I'm supposed to call this guy in the human resources dept. at NBC/UNI on Monday

Even though I'm going to DC on sad terms this weekend (to move out of my apartment and to mourn the loss of my step-dad's sister, Carol), I'm feeling good about it. I have everything packed and ready to go. My brother's driving so I can read in the car. Kate's coming, and so is my cousin Chris so I'll have some people to talk to during the ride. The hotel where we're staying has a POOL and some other nice 'amenities'. It'll be OK.

I've been looking up quotes from "The Office" to ease my boredom.

Here's a funny one:
Dwight Schrute: When you become close with someone, you develop a kind of sixth sense. You can read their moods like a book. And right now, the title of Michael's book is.. "Something Weird Is Going On...colon...What Did Jan Say? The Michael Scott Story...by Michael Scott. With Dwight Schrute."

sling backs...

...are hard to wear. If I don't wear them tight enough they fall enough, but if they're too tight they cut up the backs of my feet. What's a girl to do?

It finally rained here and took away all the humidity. This morning when I walked out of the front door to head to work (I'm always so eager to get out of the house in the morning...it's like I've forgotten what I'm heading to) I was cold. Imagine that! Nevertheless, I didn't take a cardigan to work with me and now I'm shivering a bit. If I let myself be cold for a bit maybe I'll appreciate the sticky, muggyness of real summer when it comes back. Or maybe I won't. The grass is always greener...

I was reminded how lucky I am when I received a friendly package in the mail yesterday. What did I do to deserve such great friends? I know we're not going to be together for a while but if I can just hold on to this feeling of "togetherness" then maybe the next few weeks, months, years won't be so hard. I know I will, but I don't want to forget this feeling. I don't want to doubt this feeling either. I want to feel like the people I care about are close but it's hard to do that when they're far away.

And now my two days of boredom at work have been taken away from me. I get to edit the contacts in outlook that I already edited in excel. If only I could listen to music while I did this crap. crapitty crap crap.

Tonight: "A Midsummers Night Dream" with my nana. I am so chic.

Some things I've done

Sitting in a Ben Sherman skirt, silver flats, listening to light fixtures being changed, wondering if my hair is still sticking out, wiping off seeds of pumpernickel-that is how you would find me right now if you walked into my office.

I woke up this morning really wishing for a middle-of-the-week day off like last week. But I wasn't so lucky. For getting up on time and putting an effort into my appearance today, 'The Today Show' rewarded me by interviewing Daniel Radcliffe (from the 'Harry Potter' movies) right before I had to leave for work. Usually the save the "good stuff" til the 8:30 or 9:00 a.m. time slots. But not today!

So, things are hard but life goes on. After having a crying marathon on Sunday and Monday, I feel better today. Jobs will come, people will leave, it will be uncomfortably hot outside, I will feel tired when I wake up but that's OK. This is "character building", or at least that's what a few people have told me. I believe them though. My character is building. Like Jenga!

Well, I've been really into drawing grafitti on facebook lately (mostly to take my mind off things) and here are some of the prettier things I've done:

Things Fall Apart

*UPDATE* now the entry has a title :)

Well, I can't make a title for this entry because the computer isn't letting me. But if I was able to make a title for this entry I would call it "Things Fall Apart" because right now it feels like everything is. Not because I want to copy Chinua Achebe.

I don't really want to go into detail about all the things that are, in my opinion, going wrong right now. But I will say that for the first time in my life I'm just letting myself be unhappy. I'm not trying to ignore my feelings but spending time with other people or by listening to music or watching TV. I'm not making inappropriate jokes to cover up uncomfortable emotions. I'm not trying to play down my unhappiness or rationalize it so that other people will think I'm OK. I'm just being.

I'm unhappy and I'm letting myself feel that for the first time.

Now the question is: when will this go away?

The summation of these feelings: this sucks.

The Great Escape

I made a new lyrics collage to the Boys Like Girls song "The Great Escape". Voila:
I guess it's time for an update, though not much needs to be updated. Still working at Jackson-Lewis? check. Still living in Stamford for the summer? check. Still went to DC last weekend? check. Still don't have a job? check. Still don't have an apartment? check. Carol is still sick? check. Still shopping too much? check. Still loving my kittens? check check. (there's two of them...) Still going to my mom's exercise class? check.

Ok. Enough of that old news. Let's see if I can think of some new news.
Favorite TV show: The Office.

Favorite speech impediment: The stutter, which I see-see-seem to be developing.

Favorite article of clothing: blue/white pin stripe bermuda shorts from Target (I'm not one of those people that says 'tar-jhay' in an attempt to make it sound classier. TarGET is what it is.)

Favorite day of the week: Friday because there's a strong sense of promise.

Favorite song to sing-a-long to in the car: HelloGoodbye "Here In Your Arms."

Favorite eye: The right one because it opens right away when I wake up. Mr. left, on the other hand, hits snooze.

Favorite website to waste time to: PerezHilton.com (<3s)

Favorite 'Today' show correspondant: Ann Curie (if that's how you spell her name)

Favorite time of the day: Bed Time. YES! YES! YES!

I guess that's all for now.
